Painting the Summerhouse

This actually isn’t a picture from Country Living… it’s our summerhouse, repainted! (Plus Truffle the doglet, and some bunting I made!)

Painting the Summerhouse

This is what we started with… it’s still quite nice, especially covered in pots of flowers. The steps are new, they were built by my dad! The previous ones were rotten and ugly.

So, inspired by a picture that we saw (admittedly, in Country Living) Henry & me thought we could give it a makeover with some Cuprinol shed colours in blue and white!

We had the perfect weather, and I cannot think of anything I would have preferred to have been doing during the past sunny, warm week! It’s so nice having a project to wake up in the morning and work on, then when it got too hot in the afternoon I’d head back indoors and watch some Smallville with Henry! Very therapeutic.

… Lots of Radio 4 listening during the project too. Oooh, what’s that on the porch?? Oops, that’s my other project that you’re not supposed to know about! I will blog about that soon!

The garden is in full bloom… I think it deserves a post of its own actually. On the right is my mum’s incredible hand-woven fence, which she made during the winter.

Some flowers to finish it off. 🙂 Along with another bit of handiwork from dad… some steps to make a staggered display of flowers on the porch.

And a happy me with a finished project! Making sure you get something this big finished off can be hard work can’t it? But I had the imminent change of weather before me, so a bit of determination and a couple of days later, and it feels so good putting up the last bits of bunting! Henry is talking about painting the swingseat on the left in this picture too now, but I think we’ll just give it a few days rest first… 🙂
Do you have any projects that help you forget everything and immerse yourself in for a while?
