Exhibition 2011 Project

I have been working on this project since January, lucky as I am to have been doing a practical art module (10 weeks) which counts as about 13% of my degree this year, and I do sometimes wonder how on earth I might have coped towards the end of this year if I hadn’t had four hours of art to look forwards to on a Tuesday morning. Well… Friday is hand-in day. And Monday is hanging day. And after that…. the exhibition is finally open. πŸ™‚

I adore what I have done, it is a very personal project for me, far more than anything I ever did on my art foundation course. But I didn’t want to share it until it’s perfectly ready (I have to say, I hate being judged on work that isn’t finished! However, here are some sneak previews at what I have been doing to ‘finish off’ over the last couple of days.

First of all, it was in need of something to house it. Having a very useful Dad whom I frequently abuse as stationery/woodwork shop, it occurred to me that instead of just placing the project on a shelf it could do with more of a ‘box’ which I could build it into. The fantastic box that I’m sanding down in the picture above is made from excess kitchen-flooring, and bits of picture frame. As you can also see from the laptop sitting under the desk, I have watched nearly the whole Season 3 of Merlin in the last couple of days as well while I have been working…

Secondly, I painted the box to fit with the colours of the project: pale blue and white. In fact, my whole room seems to fit the project colours! Maybe I have a bit of a thing about blue and white this year! On the subject of my room, I realise that I never did a proper room-tour after planning so carefully its seaside theme (which I was very excited about before I moved in, you can see from a while back here) so towards the end of the week I’m going to have a clear-up as a ‘reward’ for working hard, and take some photos!

I also drew & cut out a lot of trees and hands today. I loved the way these looked when I placed them on my sketchbook so much that I decided to stick them on.

So you get a pretty good idea of what I’m doing! But you’ll have to wait a week or so to see the real pictures from it. It’s just… not quite done yet. Then again, someday I’m going to have to learn when to stop. That’s always the hardest thing to judge.
