There’s high tech and there’s low tech. And sometimes on rare occasions, these two things meet in the middle to form a perfect and harmonious union. In this case the combination was Birmingham Social Media Cafe, which is held on the last Friday of each month in Birmingham Symphony Hall cafe, and my home-made cupcakes – embellished with twitter ‘link’.
Obviously if you ‘click’ the link it doesn’t take you anywhere. I mean it’s paper. In fact, a ‘click’ in this case would roughly translate as a poke. Which would probably result in squidge.
Considering my lack of natural self-promotional skills, I decided at the last BSMCafe meeting that I would offer to take cake and that once the tweets started going around saying “We hear that there are rumours of cake this month!” (and they did just that) then I would feel pressured enough to actually get around to it. And despite their imperfections… in fact, let’s call it their ‘rustic’ quality (isn’t that my signature style anyway?!)… they came out pretty well in people’s instagram/twitter photos!
The recipe is one very reliable lemon & poppyseed cupcake recipe from BBC Good Food – I’d recommend it because it contains yoghurt, which keeps them moist, and has a lot of flavour. The flags were a result of my printing, cutting & sticking skills at 8am this morning. Yes mum, that is where all the cocktail sticks that you were sure that you bought recently went. Sorry about that one. They’re just so useful…
