I wanted to share a little peek into what I’m up to this week. After probably the most hectic week I have ever experienced – seeing friends for the last time, wrapping up my lessons (with little parties!), packing, going out, travelling, I have headed to the north coast of France to the beautiful Saint Malo. And when I was in the centre of this incredible, medieval walled & coastal town, I found my perfect ‘Salon de The’.
As classical music played in the background, I picked a little teeny table-for-one by the window, chose a hot spiced apple drink, lemon & poppyseed cake from the ‘Formule Gouter’ and settled down to write some letters & postcards. Do you know about the “Gouter”? It’s a time in the afternoon, around 4-ish I believe, when the French have tea & cakes… just like afternoon tea!
Despite its tea-shop feel though, this cafe was very French. With a huge selection of teas, the option of ‘plat du jour’, and those heavy metal teapots, of which you can just about make one out on the menu in this photo. The decoration was equally beautiful!
I didn’t get a good picture of the cakes before they were taken away, but here you can see the window display. If you’re ever in Saint Malo, go to this cafe – it’s adorable!
And if you’ve never been to Saint Malo before, go there too, it’s beautiful.
